I follow more or less the advice you have given above. In 6 out of 7 cases the owners have apolgised and removed the text/photos. The 7th was a local business who proved to be very difficult and for two years the masthead of his site included one of my photos - which was actually the view from the balcony of our house! Also on a leading holiday advertisement website someone duplicated my entire advert copy on their own advert! The company did not take a firm line with the other party and allowed them to just tweak a few phrases or change the order of the sentences. I didn't renew my advert the following year! So, my experience has been that "ordinary"individuals have responded to a polite email whilst larger businesses have had a very cavalier attitude. Strange. Enjoyed your article.
