PassionDuo Green

Here is the third and final version of our latest make money blogger template first converted here at eBlog Templates. This amazing PassionDuo template for Blogger comes in three colors: red, blue, and now green.

This template includes several popular ad formats for your blog. You get a 468 x 60 banner spot in the header, six 125 x 125 banner spots in the right sidebar, and plenty of other sidebar spots for skyscraper banners.

We’ve also included our popular sidebar widgets such as Recent Posts, Recent Comments, and the cool Feedjit (real time visitor widget). Just paste in your blog rss feed urls into the Recent Posts & Comments widgets and they’ll start working.

Unlike most other custom make money blogger templates, we’ve taken the extra step and setup the “Fonts & Colors” functionality. That means you can change all the colors and font styles easily by just using the built in Blogger section. We’ve also customized the comments section so it looks very professional as well.

“What Blog Template Should I Make Next?” Contest Results

The results are in and we have a winner! If you haven’t been following our “What Blog Template Should I Make Next?” Contest then let me quickly fill you in.

At the end of February, I asked my readers to submit templates they wanted to convert to Blogger. We received many cool submissions and narrowed down the finalists to six templates. From there we managed to squeeze out two finalists: LightBreaker and Massive News which were submitted by Javi and Andre.

We then let our visitors vote on which template eBlog Templates was going to convert next and after 30 days of voting, we’ve finally got a winner! Congratulations to Javi with his submission of LightBreaker. He won 61.2% to 38.8% and both received votes from all over the world!

Now comes the part where we need to convert the winning template, include a footer link (of the winners choice), and release it on eBlog Templates. Javi, please let us know what footer link you want so we can include it in the template. It will be converted by the end of May and then launched shortly thereafter.

You can see from this screenshot that the actual editor is nicely setup so you don’t need to scroll or try and figure out how to click on the “edit” widget links. Most templates that you download make it tough to edit — not this one!

Now before you can get fully up and running with this new Blogger template, you’ll need to properly set things up. Please follow the steps below and read items carefully. The same questions are usually asked over and over by people posting comments, yet the answers are usually right in front of them. This is especially true for why the post date might not be working on your blog.Let’s start from the top of the template and work our way down each item. Don’t be too surprised when the template doesn’t look like the screenshot when you first load it up. You’ve got some configuring to do first!

Top Tabs Setup

This is actually pretty easy since the top tabs are a link list. You don’t need to alter the template code. Just go into your Blogger page layout and click on the “edit” of the “top tabs” widget. Start adding new links and then save. A “home” link will automatically appear once you setup this widget so you won’t need to add one. Save and refresh your blog to see the pretty new tabs you just created. Here’s what it should look like (different names of course)

Configure The Three Header RSS Links

This section is actually setup to dynamically work except for the Feedburner link. You’ll first need to have a FeedBurner account. If you don’t already have one, please read the “How to Setup FeedBurner on Blogger” article and then come back.

Once you’ve got your FeedBurner account, you’ll need to edit this template code and replace a few parts. Search your template code for the following text: YOUR-FEED-NAME-HERE . Replace the text with your FeedBurner name (i.e. eBlogTemplates is ours)

After you’ve changed this link save your template and check to see if it works. If you’re having trouble finding your feed name or id, please read our article above or see FeedBurner’s help section to locate it.

Header AdSense Setup

This is a great location for showing ads and we really like how the designer laid everything out. The default ads are just a placeholder but of course feel free to use them until you find a replacement. You’ll need to again edit the template code to swap out the ads. Search your template for

and right below that is where you’ll find the ad code block.

Remember, when you paste in your own ads you will need to convert the ad code into a workable Blogger format otherwise you’ll get an error when trying to save it. Use our free AdSense Code Converter to change it automatically for you. You can also look at the existing ad code included in the template and use it as a model.

Individual Post Date Setup

This is a very important step and one that most people think is broken when they install the template. It’s not folks. You just need to go into your Blogger settings and make a small change before it will work.

After you install the Blogging Pro template, go to your Blogger’s “Settings” => “Formatting” and look for “Timestamp Format”. Make sure you change it to this format: “Tuesday, January 25,2008? as shown below.

This needs to be set in this format otherwise the date won’t show up properly on each of your posts! Actually the date will most likely be blank and you’ll think the template is broken. Remember to change the TIMESTAMP FORMAT (fourth item down on the page) and NOT the Date Header Format option.

Amazon Deal of the Day Widget

This is actually a really cool widget put into the sidebar by default. If you have never heard of Amazon’s “Deal of the Day” then you’ve been missing out! Basically each day Amazon has one special item they drastically reduce in price.

Before you’d have to visit their site to see the deal but now it gets delivered directly to your Blogger site! If you want to replace or remove this widget you’ll need to edit the code and look for the following text “amazon-widget”. The line of code below that is the actual Amazon widget so just remove or replace it.

Footer Recent Posts and Comments Widgets

I really love this part about the template. In the past, your footer was an overlooked piece of real estate on your blog. With this template, it makes good use of your footer like many of the other pro bloggers out there today.

This one is easy to setup since we’ve already written an entire article dedicated to this. Please see “How to Setup Recent Comments and Posts Widgets” to configure these two widgets. These two widgets will both appear in the footer once you configure them properly. It’s a very good use of space and provides search engine spiders an entry point into your blog content.

Recommended Money Makers Section

This is the other footer element which comes already setup with our recommended money maker links and programs. This idea came from the ProBlogger.net web site and we included it in our template. You are welcome to keep the links intact or feel free to replace them with your own. You will need to edit the template code to swap them out and also have affiliate accounts setup with each vendor. It’s easy if you don’t have any accounts. Just click on each footer link to setup a new account. Search your template code for “Recommended Money Makers” and you’ll see the links below that.

Live Traffic Feed Sidebar Widget

This is a really cool feature within this template and the best part is you don’t need to do anything to setup it up! There are some further options if you click on “options >>” on your actual blog page under the widget but that’s it. This is a sample of what it will look like once you start generating some traffic (or more traffic) to your blog.

“What Blogger Template Should I Make Next?” Contest

I get tons of emails and comments from people asking me to convert all sorts of different templates but unfortunately I can’t fulfill everyone’s request. There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of really cool WordPress and open source .css templates available on the web but it’s sometimes difficult to decide which Blogger templates will be popular with my visitors.

So what better way to come up with the next Blogger template than to have a contest! In the best interest of my readers and visitors, I’m asking you to suggest templates that you think would be popular with other Bloggers. This means one lucky winner will get the Blogger template he or she has always wanted — for free I might add as well as a free footer link within the new template!

How Will This Work?

Get your mouse finger ready and start browsing the web! I’m depending on you to find the coolest WordPress or open source .css template out there. Make sure it’s free with no copyright restrictions. Any templates suggested that are in violation will not be considered. The template must also be in a blog-style format otherwise it won’t work properly with Blogger nor be easy to convert.

After finding what you think is the winning template, paste the template name and url where it can be demoed and downloaded from in the comments box below. Make sure there’s not already the same template suggested otherwise the person who first submitted it will only be considered. If you’ve designed your own template feel free to suggest it as well. Just make sure it’s really cool and high quality otherwise it might be removed from the list.

We will stop taking new template suggestions after March 9th, 2008 and will then narrow down the list. The finalists will be voted on and the winner announced on March 16th, 2008.

The template that wins will be converted by yours truly into a beautiful free Blogger template for all to download. Not only that, but the person who suggested the winning template will be given a free footer link within the template! That means your link will be included whenever someone downloads the template from eBlog Templates. Quirky Valentine

In honor of Valentine’s Day, eBlog Templates is releasing a heart-themed Blogger template called Quirky Valentine. It’s got a very pink and white look and comes with the standard template widgets. The header you see in the screenshot is only an example since you’ll need to edit and add your own text.

The font used for the sample blog title image is called “Skryptaag Tryout” (font color: #663A15). It is available for free download here. You’ll need to install the font and then you can edit the image in Adobe CS or whatever photo editing software you prefer to use. If you don’t have any fancy image editing software, you can just use MS paint or download paint.net for free. You can also use whatever font you like.

All images are hosted on our Photobucket Pro account so there’s no need to worry about putting the images somewhere else. Just download, install, and setup your widgets and you’re good to go. You’ll probably want to edit the header image as well since a blank header isn’t much fun.

WP Premium

After hours of code editing and tweaking, I’d like to welcome WP Premium Red to the eBlog Templates library. This gorgeous and powerful three column fixed width template originally designed for WordPress, can now be yours for free (all I ask of you is to please keep the footer links intact as a token of our hard work making this for you).

I’m sure most of you have seen this premium free theme before and wished it was available for Blogger. Many WordPress users were shocked to see this theme available by R.Bhavesh for free, including myself. I love the simple yet nicely laid out design. It reminds me a lot of the ProBlogger site which is in a league of it’s own.

I’d also like to note that there are no javascript external file dependencies in this Blogger template. Most free templates you download with javascript features link out to an external .js file and while the template might work well at first, it’s only a matter of time before it breaks.

All of the template images are also hosted on our Pro Photobucket account which has unlimited bandwidth. For you that means the images will always be there and not suddenly disappear at the end of the month. You might want to copy these images to your own server regardless just so you’ve got complete control of them.

This Blogspot template includes all the features of the original WordPress theme (even the javascript side bar tabs!) and all you need to do is configure them.

Configuration

This template was built to make it easy for you to setup without touching much of the code. Most sections were built using widgets so you’ll just need to edit each one accordingly. Follow the steps below to correctly setup the template so it will look like the screen shot above.

Before we begin, I want to point out the very cool sidebar tab switching feature. You probably didn’t notice it right away so look at the search box on the right side. Notice the second tab called “Categories” and click on it. Assuming you’ve got at least one category, you’ll instantly switch without the page reloading. Pretty cool huh? This was part of the original design for WordPress and eBlog Templates specially converted it over to Blogger using Javascript.

Header Tabs

When you first load up the template, you won’t see any tabs. Don’t worry, it’s working properly and you just need to add new tabs. Unlike other Blogger templates, you don’t need to edit the code to add or remove tabs. Just go into the page element area and click on “edit” within the “Top Tabs” widget. Surprise, it’s a simple link list widget so just add as many tabs as you want with ease.

Subscribe to Feed Via Email

This section you actually need to edit the code to make it work properly. It’s wired up to work with Feedburner and all you need to do is pop in your id. Edit the template code and look for this section:

Replace the YOUR-FEED-ID-HERE and YOUR BLOG NAME HERE with the appropriate values given to you from Feedburner.

If you have an Feedburner account, you’ll want to setup your RSS feed as well. Right above the section you just edited, you’ll find this code:

Replace with something like this . Read our “How to Setup Feedburner on Blogger” article for more details.

100 x 100 Ad Spots

This section is just an html widget so you can either delete it or paste in a few ads. The default ads will disappear once you fill the html widget box so don’t worry about touching the code. There’s nothing special about the ad formatting. The current ad code looks like this:

Topics and Blogroll

These are just simple link lists so feel free to remove them or add links to them. There’s plenty of sidebar space since there’s two sidebar columns.

Ads Widget

This small html widget defaults to a Text Link Ads button as an example. Once you put something in the html box, this default ad will disappear. If you haven’t heard of Text Link Ads before you might want to take a look. It’s a great site which allows you to sell links on your blog. Read more about Text Link Ads for Blogger.

Footer Link Widget

Just like the original WordPress design, this template also has the option to add footer links to match the top tabs. Unfortunately there isn’t a way in Blogger to automatically print out the same set of tabs so if you want to use this feature you’ll just need to enter the exact same tabs in this link widget.

This is what it should look like once you’ve added a few links. Some people don’t bother even using this widget so feel free to remove it or just not add any links to it.

Revision History

Update (2/15/08): This template has been updated to include the Blogger page element layout editor missing scrollbar fix. I’ve added several new css elements like body#layout CSS selector to add CSS styles that adapt templates to the editor.

Update (2/17/08): A bug was found in the search widget of this template (thanks Kenneth) which has been fixed. Anyone who downloaded this template prior to 2/17 will need to either re-download the template or make an easy one character fix to their existing template. I recommend backing up your template before you make this change. The fix is as follows:

Search your existing template for the following bit of code and replace the “s” with a “q“.

After you make this change, save your template and the search box should now work properly. Sorry for the bug but at least it’s an easy fix right?

Update (2/18/08): A new bug was found in the individual posts section (thanks Nick). The date was being shown twice in the post header. If you downloaded this template prior to 2/18, you can easily fix this without downloading it again. Go into your template layout editor and edit the blog posts module. Uncheck the 3rd box down and save. It should now be fixed.

Update (4/22/08): The previous 100 x 100 ad spots weren’t very popular and have been replaced with 4 of the more standard 125 x 125 size banners. The default comes with four great ads which you can either keep or replace with your own. I recommend keeping them if you currently don’t have any ads to use. Then click through and sign up with each of the 4 ads and put your own version on your blog instead.
